2024 'Light Breaks Dawn' Cabernet Franc
Farmed by Fiona Wood, McLaren Vale
NOSE
Black Cherry
Plum
Violets
PALATE
Raspberry
Blueberry
Granite
Bright and lively with a beautiful red and blue fruited palate. On the nose, fruits of plum and cherry are well balanced by savoury whole-bunch characters. A primary fruit forward palate and a fine tannin profile leans this nicely into the chilled red category.
In 2024 we began working with this special site that sits atop a hill on Seaview Road in McLaren Vale, offering sweeping views and a maritime influence from the Gulf St Vincent. Managed by Fiona Wood and generously passed on to us by James Erskine of Jauma who had worked with it for the past 14 years.
Cabernet Franc was fermented as 50% wholebunch and 50% destemmed in an open-top stainless steel fermenter. Daily pump-overs took place throughout the early stages of fermentation with piegage only after 5 days on skins to maintain early-fermentation carbonic characteristics. Despite being the first fruit in the winery for 2024, the ferment was almost textbook, going dry within 12 days of picking. Following a slow press cycle, the wine was settled and aged on fine lees in seasoned French barriques and hogs heads.
